Stage 1: Concrete Experience
At Y S Chung Law, we view a successful internship as one that facilitates three (3) significant aspects of your development: personal, professional and civic consciousness.

You enter our internship program at different points of your development in the categories and with care and attention, you can (and we hope you will) grow in all three areas as well.

Personal Development
The internship is an opportunity for intellectual and emotional development that will be important in your life, whichever career path you choose. You will develop the ability to form a critical perspective on complex facts and learn how to process information meticulously under pressure while working in a team. There will also be opportunities to work independently while testing your own creative capacity to do so.

Professional Development
While some interns enter an internship for career exploration, there are some who take the opportunity to apply what they have learnt in their academic experience. Of course for some, their purpose would fall between these two reasons. For everyone though, an internship affords the opportunity to take the next step, to acquire knowledge, develop skills and appreciate the social norms and values of the legal profession.

Civic Professionalism
Regardless of whether you embark on a legal career eventually, the internship is an opportunity to learn some of the knwoledge, skills and values that will help you participate productively in your community one day. The civic skills you learn may help you advocate change in your neighbourhood or community so that conditions become more equitable for everyone. You will also begin to appreciate why understanding social issues is an obligation for everyone, not just for those in law, politics or journalism.
